Hand Jive
A Photographic Study Of Myspace may seem to many just a freak show, an opportunity to laugh at the dregs of society and feel superior. To a large degree this is true and I’ll gladly admit that. However after looking at tens of thousands of photos on Myspace over the last couple of years I have found myself exploring many mysteries, themes and characteristics of the human animal. An important aspect of the APSOM experiment is dedicated to the study of human behavior through the photographs people choose to represent themselves with. After much thought I felt that a series of photoblogs would be the most effective way to express and discuss my theories and findings. One theme I have repeated throughout this project is the primitive use of hand gestures and expressive body language by Homo sapiens. These primordial precursors to human speech still play a large role in human communication, group belonging, sexual symbolism and tribal exclusivism. But once again I will (hopefully) let the photos speak for themselves…
